The third part of this series did not disappoint at all. A little less action in this part, but a little more realizations and explanations. There is much mysticism and spirituality in the book, which maintains tension and has the reader thinking that destiny plays the main role. I loved the new characters, and I felt that all of them were connected in some mysterious way or the other. We find in this book an impressive battleship named Sentinel, which only Rex can power up as it runs on dark energy, which is the same energy that Rex possesses. Reluctantly, Rex boards the ship, leaving Lily, Milo, and GromyKo behind, as their presence is needed elsewhere. Lily’s condition worsens after separating from Rex, resulting in even less chance for recovery. Rex takes a disliking to Krancis, the emperor’s right-hand man, because of his hard demeanour and political agendas, but works along with him to fight for humanity by getting rid of the devourers and reuniting with Lily. But he realizes that things aren’t all that easy. A traitorous new enemy emerges, making things even more complicated. The Pho ‘Sath, a race with intense hatred for Earthborns are working alongside the devourers and conspiring against the Empire. To me, the emperor seems gullible and half-witted, which is maybe why Rex’s world is in such a dreadful state. The ending of the book was absolutely devastating and makes you wonder how many more sacrifices Rex will have to make in order to save the world. I also wonder whether Soliana is a manipulative spy or not. Anyway, this book is absolutely worth the read, and I highly recommend it. Things are just getting more and more interesting!
